Sometimes you can change your life with small adjustments. Working toward a positive and fulfilled life doesn’t have to mean that you achieve all of your goals immediately, or that you make a lot of money. You can improve your life with little changes one at a time. Building positive habits will help you feel happier and healthier. Here are a few of our favorite life hacks that will help inspire a better life:
Getting enough sleep is crucial, and what is enough differs for everyone. Most commonly, people need 8 hours of sleep a night. But how much do you really get? It’s easy to stay up late working, cleaning, or even just trying to get the most out of your free time when you’re not working. However, sleep should be a top priority. If you don’t get enough rest, it will impact your work, mood, and relationships, not to mention your health. So make it a habit to get enough sleep, and you’ll be happy you did.
Drinking water is an easy way to feel good and healthy. On average, people should drink 64 oz. a day, but this can fluctuate depending on your body. Try to keep a water bottle on you at all times so you can refill it when you need to.
Being a good listener is key to fostering great relationships, and great relationships are so helpful to improving your life. Train yourself to focus on what others say and empathize with their thoughts, feelings, and situation. When you can listen well, you’ll become a better friend.
This doesn’t mean you have to research your macros, or even join a gym. It just means that you should take care of your body and find an activity that you love. That can be yoga, walking, jogging, biking, swimming—whatever! Just try to make it a habit to be active at least a few times a week. When you’re active, your brain releases endorphins—the chemical that makes you happy. So if you’re feeling down, sweat it out!
Learning feels good! Try to always be reading a book, and try to think critically about it. Learn new skills and try to take classes, online or at a local educational institute. When you’re learning something new, you can feel proud of yourself, and it may even spark new passions that you didn’t know you had!
Life is stressful, and it’s easy to get wrapped up in our own worries. Sometimes it’s difficult to see past our own issues and just appreciate the things we should be grateful for. One way to slow down is to try and be conscious of where you are and what you’re doing in the present. When you feel overwhelmed, try to stop, take a breath, and simply look around. Take in your surroundings, take a few deep breaths, and step outside of your worries to appreciate the world around you.
Getting fresh air can help you clear your mind. When you’re working all the time and surrounded by responsibilities, it can be difficult to tune out. Try to simply take a walk around the block, or even just step out of your home or office for a moment. Leave your phone behind and just disengage from work and technology for a couple of minutes.
Know why you want what you want, and what you need to do to get it. A lot of times, we set goals because we think that our friends and family expect us to achieve those goals. But what goals would really make you happy and fulfilled? Once you know which goals you want to achieve for yourself, focus on how to accomplish them. Try to work on your goals each day.
Expressing your gratitude for others thoughtfulness will strengthen your friendships, and deepen your feeling of thankfulness. When you truly appreciate an act or gift from another, it will make that much more of a positive impact in your life.
When you have a closed mind, you’re likely to face hard times. If you can be flexible, you’ll be ready to adapt to the many changes that life will inevitably throw your way. Lao Tzu said that a flexible branch will bounce back in the wind, but a stiff branch will break. Keep that in mind as you go through your life and try to be flexible.
When you reflect back on your life, you’ll realize that the people you spend it with are what make your life important. Try to make your relationships a priority. Spend time with the people you love. You won’t ever regret it.
Life isn’t exciting when you’re comfortable. If you challenge yourself, you’ll grow, learn, and once you’ve accomplished whatever was challenging to you, you’ll feel proud! Building your confidence is one of the best ways to improve your life.
Try not to complain. When you think negative thoughts, you just perpetuate that feeling. If you try your best to think positive thoughts, then you’ll likely feel more positive too.
Social media can suck away your time, make you feel unproductive, and therefore make you feel down. It also doesn’t help to compare yourself to people whose lives seem perfect on social media. You should always remember that social media is heavily curated—people only post what they want to show off. If you spend too much time on social media, and comparing yourself to people on social media, it can negatively affect your mental health, self-image, and productivity.
Life happens. Stressful moments arise and they can often be overwhelming. It’s crucial to remember to give yourself a break. It can be so easy to get wrapped up in work and push yourself too much. Before you get to the breaking point, remind yourself to take a step back and make time for yourself. If you need to, schedule your breaks!
Hopefully these life tips can help you brighten your day-to-day. Remember, you don’t need to do all these things at once! Try to add little changes to your day, and work toward building helpful, healthy habits.
